Wanaka Guide
Wanaka is the jewel of the Southern Lakes. A town rich in natural beauty, a vibrant bar and restaurant scene and an outdoor playground for adventure. Our town is the perfect place to rest and rejuvenate, or spend time on the lake, walking in the mountains, biking, or skiing Cardrona, Treble Cone or Snowfarm. We are on the doorstep of Aspiring National Park, on the shores of Lake Wanaka, and flanked by the mighty Clutha River. Puzzle World, the Cardrona Hotel and #thatwanakatree are Wanaka ‘Must See’s.

Walking
Wanaka has an abundance of superb walks, from a short hike up Mount Iron to a day trip up Roy’s Peak. Local favourites include Rocky Mountain and Fisherman’s track. Follow the lake or river, hike the hills or walk to the Wanaka Tree; you will find the walk to suit you in Wanaka.

Mountain Biking
Enjoy professional tracks at Glendhu Bike Park, check out Sticky Forest or meander the shores of Lake Wanaka by bike. Check out the local bike hire and ebike stockists.
Skiing
Wanaka hosts some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world. Visit Cardrona for family fun and world-class hospitality, Treble Cone for challenging terrain and beautiful views, and Snow Farm for picturesque scenery and New Zealand’s only cross-country skiing resort.

Wanaka A&P Show
One of the South Island’s largest and most popular agricultural and pastoral shows set on the shores of Lake Wanaka. A fun day for family and friends, viewing agricultural and pastoral products, displays and events.
Warbirds over Wanaka
Every other Easter, Wanaka hosts the legendary Warbirds over Wanaka International Air Show. Enthusiasts come from far and wide to experience displays of vintage and modern aircraft.

Vineyard Tours
Visit Wanaka’s stunning wineries – Rippon on the shores of Lake Wanaka, Mt Maude tasting room, or take a Wanaka Wine Tour.

Cardrona Hotel
Step back in time at the historic Cardrona Hotel. Settle in for the afternoon or evening to enjoy the food and local beer and wine.

Lavender Farm

Kayaking
Get out on the lake with a kayak or a stand-up paddle board from Wanaka Paddle. Visit Ruby Island or check out the shoreline around the town. Stunning views and a beautiful lake.
Scenic Flights
Take a trip by air into the incredible Aspiring National Park. Fly over the mighty Matukituki by helicopter, vintage aeroplane or small plane.
Golf
